Founded in 1971, Empire State College, State University of NY, is one of 13 colleges of arts and sciences, accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. We are uniquely designed to serve adults pursuing associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The college offers affordable, SUNY degrees onsite at 35 locations in New York state and abroad, as well as entirely online. You choose how, when and where you will study. Transfer Application Requirements

  • Official Transcripts:
    The submission of an official high school transcript, copy of diploma or GED documentation is required. Official transcripts from previously attended colleges or universities are required.
  • Essay:
    An essay consisting of a short reading followed by a writing assignment of at least 300 words is required with your application.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a non-refundable $50 orientation fee. If you are participating in one of our special programs your application screens will not reflect a payment requirement.
  • Other Requirements:
    Applicants born on or after January 1, 1957 must provide the college with proof of immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella , or obtain an exemption for religious or medical reasons. This must be submitted with your application.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    ESC accepts academic credits with a grade of C- or better from regionally accredited and NY State Education Dept degree-granting institutions.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    The max accepted from a 2-year is 40 (64 remain for an associate degree-24 must be taken at Empire State. The max from a 4-year is 96 (128 credits remain for a bachelor's degree-32 must be taken at Empire State).
