Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    The average grade point average (GPA) for students transferring to SUNY Potsdam is 3.0 (on a 4.0 grading scale). Consideration for transfer admission to SUNY Potsdam is given to students who have earned a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA at all previously attended colleges. A minimum GPA of 2.25 is recommended for admission to the majority of majors at Potsdam; a 2.5 is required for education majors.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college transcripts are required. If you have completed fewer than 30 semester hours of college-level course work or have earned between a 2.0-2.25 GPA, you may also be required to submit a high school transcript.
  • SAT Scores:
    The submission of standardized test scores is optional.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Letters of recommendation are required.
  • Essay:
    An essay is required.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a nonrefundable $50 application fee, which is waived if you are transferring directly to SUNY Potsdam having earned an Associate Degree at a 2-year SUNY or CUNY College.
  • Interview:
    A campus visit and interview are recommended.
  • Other Requirements:
    If you have completed fewer than 30 semester hours of college-level course work or have earned between a 2.0-2.25 GPA, you may also be required to submit a SUNY Potsdam Supplemental Transfer Application.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The minimum grade requirement for transfer credit is D. A minimum of C is required for all major courses.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    You must complete 30 credits in residency to earn your bachelor's degree.
