Information for Transfer In Students

  • Accepts Transfers:
    Transferring to a new college can indeed be a hassle, but SUNY Plattsburgh makes it easy. We have a friendly credit-transfer policy , and we’ll pre-register you into your major courses before orientation.
  • Credit For Life Experience:
    Up to 30 credits will be accepted for credit earned by examination (AP, CLEP, Dantes and IB). Credits earned by examination are considered lower-division and are counted in the limits listed above.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    SUNY Plattsburgh recommends a 2.30 GPA for admission. Some programs have specific GPA guidelines that are required for admission. GPA is calculated across all colleges or universities attended - not just the latest college.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Students who have less than 24 credits will be asked to provide a high school transcript in addition to official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions.
  • SAT Scores:
    SUNY Plattsburgh requires the submission of official standardized thest scores for students with less than 24 transferrable credits.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    A letter of recommendation is strongly encouraged.
  • Essay:
    The submission of an essay is strongly encouraged.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $50 nonrefundable application fee.
  • Interview:
    Interviews and visits to the campus are strongly encouraged but not required.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Courses completed with a D grade or better may be accepted for transfer credit, unless a grade higher than D is required in that course in order to maintain satisfactory progress in a specific curriculum at SUNY Plattsburgh.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Students transferring from 2-year colleges may be granted a max of 67 semester hours earned. Students transferring from 4-year colleges may transfer up to 84 semester hours provided that at least 17 of those were earned at 4-year colleges.
