Information for Transfer In Students

  • Accepts Transfers:
    About 75 percent of our total transfer population comes from two-year schools, and the remaining 25 percent transfer to RIT after beginning studies at another four-year school.
  • Transfer Applicants Enrolled:
    This year, RIT will enroll more than 1,100 new transfer students, placing our university among the national leaders in transfer student admission

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Admission to RIT is competitive.
  • Official Transcripts:
    If you have completed less than 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours), official high school transcripts are required. Official academic transcripts from all colleges you have attended (even if only one class) are required.
  • SAT Scores:
    SAT/ACT scores are required if you have completed less than 30 semester (45 quarter) credits at the time of your application.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Recommendations from those familiar with your academic performance often are influential in the admissions process.
  • Essay:
    A personal statement or essay is required.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $50 application fee.
  • Interview:
    Interviews with admissions counselors often are influential in the admissions process.
  • Other Requirements:
    Art Portfolio (required for admission into School of Art, Design or American Crafts)

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Usually a grade of "C" or better is required for transfer credit to be awarded.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A minimum of 45 quarter credit hours needs to be completed at RIT in the college granting the degree for Associate and Baccalaureate degree candidates.
