    Rensselaer has a wide range of aid options including grants, scholarships, loans and work programs to assist in making a Rensselaer education possible. Most of our merit based awards simply require you to apply for admission.

    If you have 12 or more transferable credits after completion of high school, you should apply as a transfer student. Due to the nature of the programs, transfer students are not eligible for Accelerated programs.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0 (may be higher for some disciplines), special circumstances will be considered when the admissions decision is made.
  • Official Transcripts:
    High school transcripts are required if applying with less than 4 completed full-time semesters. College transcripts from every institution attended are required.
  • SAT Scores:
    SAT/ACT scores are required if applying with less than 4 completed full-time semesters.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Request one letter of recommendation either from an instructor who has taught you or from an academic dean or counselor.
  • Essay:
    The essay is optional for all transfer applicants. However, we do encourage you to submit an essay with your transfer application. The essay should address why you want to transfer to Rensselaer, and should be approximately 250-500 words.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $70 non-refundable application fee.
  • Interview:
    Rensselaer does not offer admissions interviews. However, if you’d like to make an appointment with a transfer counselor to have your questions answered, you may do so.
  • Other Requirements:
    Electronic Arts, Architecture, Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences applicants are required to submit a creative portfolio.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    In general, credit may be granted for courses where a grade of at least a C has been earned.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Min-12 credits. Max-64 (128 credit program); 60 (120 credit program). You must complete 4 full-time semesters and undergrads must complete 64 credits at Rensselaer to earn a bachelors's degree.
