    Transfer applicants are students who have earned college- or university-level credits after high school graduation. Nearly a third of the undergraduates who received a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State last year were transfer students.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    If you have earned 30 or more semester hours (45 quarter hours) after high school graduation at the time of application, admission to the Columbus campus is based on your cumulative college or university academic performance. Applicants who have earned a cumulative 2.5 or better from all colleges and universities attended are typically competitive for admission to the Columbus campus. Grade trends and performance in courses key to the chosen major are considered in the admissions decision. If you are an Ohio resident, you may apply for admission to a regional campus. If you have earned at least a 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) on your college course work, we will review your academic performance in college to determine your eligibility.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities are required. An official high school transcript is required of applicants with fewer than 30 semester (45 quarter) earned semester hours.
  • SAT Scores:
    Standardized test scores are required of applicants with fewer than 30 semester (45 quarter) earned hours post high school graduation.
  • Essay:
    Completing the personal statement is required for students whose academic records include interruptions in education. It is optional for others.
  • Application Fee:
    Before submitting your application, you will be asked for a NONREFUNDABLE $60 application fee.
  • Other Requirements:
    Your academic record may be reviewed for enrollment to your intended major. Some colleges and schools at Ohio State require a minimum GPA, prerequisite course work and/or an audition or portfolio.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Course credit will transfer to Ohio State if the course was taken at a regionally accredited institution, the course was non-remedial, and you received a C- or better. In a few cases, a D or D+ may transfer.
