    You must complete a FAFSA for each academic year you would like to receive aid: NSU school code is 002021. Students who are PTK graduates are guaranteed admission to NSU and could be eligible to receive an annual scholarship of $1,500.

    Total Estimated Cost of Attendance Per Semester: $11,273 In-State; $16,667 Out-of-State. This includes tuition, fees, average housing, meal plan, books, and miscellaneous.

Information for Transfer In Students

  • Accepts Transfers:
    Northwestern State welcomes transfer students from around the world for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.
  • Credit For Life Experience:
    Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is a process where credit hours may be earned at NSU through an intensive portfolio writing course (IDS 3000) for life, work, or volunteer experience determined to be college level learning.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    A minimum college GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) is required of transfer applicants.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college transcripts are required. You must submit official high school transcripts if transferring with less than 18 hours.
  • SAT Scores:
    Official SAT and/or ACT Scores are required if Math or English have not been taken.
  • Other Requirements:
    Official immunization records are required. Male applicants are required to submit Selective Service Registration.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Hours earned at an institution accredited by a regional committee on colleges, or the equivalent, with a grade of D or better will be accepted at Northwestern.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    The maximum number of credits or courses that may be transferred for credit from a 2-year institution is 65, 90 from a 4-year. You must complete 15 credits at NSULA to earn an associate degree, and 30 in residence to earn a bachelor's degree.
