  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    Financial Aid - including scholarships, grants, and student loans are widely available. In fact, 95% of our students receive aid. The average financial aid award for NMU students is $12,300. All new admitted transfer students enrolled on the NMU campus are automatically considered for the Transfer Merit Scholarship. Amounts differ based on residency status.

    Tuition: $13, 248 (annual resident undergraduate)/ $18,996 (annual nonresident undergraduate). $37/semester student activity fee (includes use of a laptop for full-time students). $265 athletic fee ($132 for transfer students with 56+ credit hours).

    NMU allows students to enroll in the online Applied Workplace Leadership program. We offer an unofficial evaluation of previous credit to determine how long it will take to complete the degree and how transfer credits will most likely fit.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Transfer applicants are admitted in good standing if you have a 2.00 overall grade point average (2.25 if less than 12 college-level credits) on a 4.00 scale for college-level courses taken at all post-secondary institutions attended after high school and are eligible to return to the last institution attended. Academic departments may have additional requirements for admission to specific programs.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official postsecondary transcripts are required. If you have been enrolled in less than 12 college-level credits after high school, official high school transcripts are also required.
  • SAT Scores:
    NMU has permanently adopted a test-blind/test-free admission policy for all future terms. Test scores (ACT/SAT) are not required and will not be considered in admission decisions.
  • Essay:
    Not required.
  • Application Fee:
    $35 non-refundable - fee waivers and exceptions may be available.
  • Interview:
    Not required.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is C-.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    The maximum semester credit hours that may be transferred from a 2-year institution is 90, no limit from a 4-year. You must complete 16 credits at NMU to earn an associate degree, 30 at NMU to earn a bachelor's degree.
