    Our Prior Learning Assessment program provides students with the opportunity to earn credit for life and work experience. To submit a portfolio to a faculty member for review, there is a fee of $275.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Transfer students must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale from all colleges, universities and trade schools attended.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official transcripts are required from all colleges and universities attended. Your High School Transcript is required if you have complete fewer than 24 semester hours of college credit.
  • SAT Scores:
    ACT or SAT scores are required if you have completed fewer than 24 semester hours of college credit.
  • Application Fee:
    $30 or fee waiver

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Credits (Min/Max):
    The maximum number of semester units that may be transferred from a two-year institution is 64, 90 from a four-year. You must complete 30 credits at NIU to earn your bachelor's degree.
