Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Students desiring to transfer to Nicholls State University who attended any postsecondary institution after graduating from high school must meet the minimum admissions criteria. Students are eligible for admission if they have earned a transferable associate degree (AA or AS) or higher or meet the following all of the following: -have at least 18 nondevelopmental transfer hours of college level credit; and -have at least a 2.0 GPA on the college level academic courses; and -have completed college-level English and Mathematics course design to fulfill general education requirements
  • Official Transcripts:
    Applicants must submit a complete official transcript from each college or university attended, whether or not credit was earned. Transcripts should be mailed or sent via eSCRIPT-SAFE® from each institution.
  • SAT Scores:
    Depending on course work taken, transfer students may be required to submit either ACT or SAT scores.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Letters of recommendation are not required. However, students must be eligible to return to institutions previously attended; that is, students must be in good standing with those institutions.
  • Essay:
    Not required.
  • Application Fee:
    A non-refundable fee of $20 for United States citizens and $30 for non-citizens will be assessed for each application submitted for admission or readmission to the university.
  • Interview:
    Generally, not required. It is suggested that transfer students wishing to major in art submit portfolios or reproductions of their work to enable art faculty to determine student placement into art courses. Music majors may be required to audition.
  • Associates Degree Required:
    Not required.
  • Other Requirements:
    Applicants must not need any developmental (remedial) courses. Also, applicants who have met the minimum GPA requirement, but have not earned a minimum of 18 college-level credits, must also meet the freshman admissions criteria.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    A grade of at least D in a course is required to issue credit for the course. A grade of C or better is required in English Composition II or its equivalent. Other grade requirements may vary by major.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Students must earn at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for a degree program at Nicholls and earn a majority of credits in the major at Nicholls. Please see the university catalog for degree requirments.
