Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Admission for transfer students is highly competitive. NYU’s evaluation will focus primarily on your college/university grades and your high school/secondary school performance. Our most competitive applicants have completed at least one full-time year of coursework by the time they enroll at NYU.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Your secondary/high school transcript and college/university transcripts from all institutions you have attended are required.
  • SAT Scores:
    Standardized testing is optional for most applicants, but may be required of some.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Contact information for one person (or, optionally, up to three maximum) who will complete a letter of recommendation. NYU requires one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, coach, supervisor, or anyone else in a position of authority.
  • Application Fee:
    Nonrefundable $85.00 application fee.
  • Other Requirements:
    Many of our programs have additional requirements, which may include an audition, portfolio, or prerequisite courses.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Courses with a grade of C or better will be eligible for transfer credit. NYU must offer a corresponding course. Courses must have been taken within the last 10 years.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 64 credits will be accepted for transfer credit. NYU Steinhardt accepts up to a maximum of 72 credits. Once enrolled, you can expect to take at least 64 additional credits to earn a bachelor's degree.
