New York School of Interior Design is New York’s only private, not-for-profit college dedicated solely to interior design education. NYSID is the premier place to study interior design with its great location, superb facilities, distinguished faculty, as well as its challenging and comprehensive curriculum that gives emphasis to both residential and contract design. The college offers two undergraduate degree programs, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design (BFA) and the Associate in Applied Science in Interior Design (AAS). As well as one-year, nondegree certificate program in Basic Interior Design (BID) is also offered.

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    Scholarships are available to matriculated students who maintain good academic standing. Students can also apply for need-based financial aid through the Office of Financial Aid. Students must be formally accepted into a NYSID program prior to being awarded assistance.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Official Transcripts:
    High school and college transcripts, from every institution attended, are required.
  • SAT Scores:
    ACT/SAT scores are required if graduated from high school in past five years. They are not required if applying with 45 or more credits from an accredited college.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Two letters of recommendation, typically from (but not limited to) teachers, employers, design professionals, or counselors (generally not from friends or relatives).
  • Essay:
    An essay describing your reasons for applying to NYSID is required.
  • Application Fee:
    A nonrefundable, nontransferable fee of $60 must accompany this application ($100 for International Students).
  • Other Requirements:
    A portfolio is required for BFA and AAS programs. Admissions requirements may vary by program.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    NYSID accepts transfer credits for liberal arts and design courses taken at other accredited colleges/universities. These courses must have been taken for credit and awarded a grade of C or better for liberal arts and B or better for design.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Official transcripts & course descriptions are used to determine transfer credit. Advanced standing or transfer credit for design work is granted only after careful portfolio evaluation. Final approval of all transfer credit is made by an advisor.
