Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    Financial assistance is available to help students meet costs related to course work at MECC. Several grants, scholarships, and work programs help students meet a variety of expenses including tuition and fees, books, supplies, transportation, food, and other monthly expenses.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • SAT Scores:
    ACT scores of 22+ or SAT scores of 520+ in the Math assessment are acceptable in lieu of the VPT Math Test. ACT scores of 21+ or SAT scores of 500+ in the English assessment are acceptable in lieu of the VPT English Test.
  • Other Requirements:
    MECC requires an assessment in reading, writing, and math skills PRIOR to registration for the first-time student and/or for the student desiring to take English or Math courses. The Virginia Placement Test (VPT) is a free, untimed computer test.
