  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    If you require financial assistance, your first step is to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online as soon as possible after January 1 of the year you plan to enroll. The FAFSA evaluates eligibility for need-based aid, including federal loans, and gives students access to need-based grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Admission as a transfer student is based on consistent academic performance, including all grades, courses, and attempts at all previously attended institutions. Applicants with a GPA below 2.0 are not admissible. Consideration is stronger for applicants with a 3.0 GPA.
  • Official Transcripts:
    High school transcripts are required if applying with less than 28 credits. College transcripts from every institution previously attended are required.
  • SAT Scores:
    SAT/ACT scores are required if applying with less than 28 credits.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    MSU does NOT require letters of recommendation as part of the application for admission.
  • Essay:
    An essay or personal statement is required.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $50 non-refundable application fee.
  • Interview:
    An interview is not required.
  • Other Requirements:
    Admission consideration is stronger for applicants who have completed 28 or more credits and prevoius college algebra, basic english/writing and course work. Certain limited enrollment majors have additional admission requirements.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Course work assigned a grade of 2.0 or higher may be recognized in transfer.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A max of 60 semester hours may be accepted for transfer from a 2-year institution, 90 from a 4-year. You must earn 30 semester hours in residence at Michigan State to receive your bachelor's degree.
