    If you've completed 2 or more terms at an accredited college, university, tech institute, military academy or community college, you may apply for transfer admission. We do not admit students who have finished less than 1 or more than 2 1/2 years.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    There is no minimum required GPA. However, competitive applicants have a GPA of 3.5 or above, and mostly "A"s in mathematics and science courses.
  • Official Transcripts:
    The submission of official college transcripts to date and high school/secondary school transcripts is required.
  • SAT Scores:
    You must take the new SAT I with the writing component and two SAT II subject tests, one in math (Level 1 2) and one in science (Physics, Chemistry, or Biology E/M). If you already took the Writing SAT II subject test, you may substitute that test.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    The submission of three evaluation forms from college instructors is required with your application.
  • Essay:
    There are two required essays on the application.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $75 nonrefundable application fee. If you think you may qualify for a fee waiver, please contact our office.
  • Interview:
    A personal interview is not required for transfer admission consideration.
  • Other Requirements:
    We recommend that you take a variety of math and science courses before applying, including one year each of college-level calculus and calculus-based physics, and one semester each of biology and chemistry.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is B.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    You must have min of 2 semesters of college, but no more than 5. Transfer credit is assessed by each academic department on a course by course basis. Transfer students are required to complete at least 3 semesters at MIT to earn a bachelors degree.
