  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
By now, you may have heard of something called FAFSA—the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It’s the key to getting money for your education based on your financial need. By filing your FAFSA, you’ll be applying for most of the financial aid offered, including loans, grants, work-study, and some scholarships. Whatever your circumstances, you need to understand financial aid so you’ll have realistic expectations for what you’ll receive. It’ll also help you minimize your post-college debt.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
Indiana residents should have a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.3 on a 4.0-point scale before applying to IU Bloomington. Nonresidents should have a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.5. Because of the competitive nature of our applicant pool, few transfers (Indiana residents and nonresidents) are admitted with a GPA below 2.5. Additionally, no GPA in itself will guarantee admission.
  • Official Transcripts:
An official college transcript is required. Your high school transcript and test scores will be reviewed as part of the admission process if you have completed fewer than 26 semester hours (or 39 quarter hours) of college coursework.
  • SAT Scores:
Your SAT/ACT scores (if necessary), which must be sent directly from the testing agencies; if you are at least 21 years old or have been out of high school three or more years, you do not need to send SAT/ACT scores.
  • Essay:
You’ll be asked to describe your academic and career plans and any special interest that you are eager to pursue. Also, if you encountered any unusual circumstances, challenges, or obstacles in pursuit of your education, you may share those.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $65 non-refundable application fee.
