    Transferring to Hofstra will allow you to bring any Federal Pell Grant or New York State TAP for which you are eligible with you. You will need to re-apply for any Federal Stafford Loan that is available.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    There is no minimum GPA requirement.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college transcripts of completed course work from all prior institutions should be forwarded directly to the Office of Admission for evaluation as part of the student’s application for admission.
  • SAT Scores:
    If you have fewer than 24 college credits earned, it is also necessary to submit an official high school transcript - include SAT and/or ACT scores or An official transcript from EACH college you attend/attended.
  • Essay:
    Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve, and attach it to your application before submission.
  • Application Fee:
    A nonrefundable $70 application fee in the form of a check or money order payable to Hofstra University or by using our online application (application fee is reduced to $50 for online applicants).
  • Interview:
    Informational interviews are available and may be scheduled with an admission counselor by calling the Office of Undergraduate Admission at 1-800-HOFSTRA, ext. 610.
  • Other Requirements:
    Grades attained at another institution are not recorded on the Hofstra record and are not included in the grade point average to meet graduation requirements.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Appropriate courses completed with a minimum grade of C- or the equivalent at fully accredited institutions are transferable.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 64 semester hours is transferable from a junior or community college with the following exceptions: a. engineering programs, 69 semester hours and b. business administration programs, 65 semester hours.
