Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU) is the premiere tribal university in the United States, offering quality education to Native American students. Haskell’s student population averages about 1000 per semester, and all students are members of federally recognized tribes. Haskell’s faculty and staff is predominantly native. Haskell offers Associate and Bachelors degrees. Haskell’s historic campus is centrally located in Lawrence, KS in what is known as Kaw Valley.

    The mission of Haskell Indian Nations University is to provide a tuition-free education for Native American Indians and Alaskan Natives of federally recognized Tribes. Estimated Semester Fees: $715 library and technology.

  • Technical/Vocation Credit Accepted:
    Transfer credit is accepted as general elective credit from vocational technical institutions if the institution is regionally accredited and the courses taken apply toward an associate degree at the institution.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    If an applicant has, at minimum, a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale at their previous college, as well as completed ALL required application materials, they are eligible for acceptance as a transfer student.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college transcripts from all previously attended institutions are required.
  • SAT Scores:
    Students under the age of 25 years, or who have not earned college credit for mathematics or English, must submit either ACT or SAT scores. The ACT writing score is optional.
  • Application Fee:

    Official documentation regarding tribal recognition signed by the appropriate BIA agency or tribe is required. All students must have current Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR I and II) immunizations.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Acceptable transfer course credit must carry a grade of “C” or higher (2.0 on a 4.0 scale).
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Students in the associate degree program must complete 15 credit hours in residence. Students in the baccalaureate degree programs must complete 30 credit hours in residence.
