Glenville State College, often referred to as the Lighthouse on the Hill, is West Virginia’s only centrally located public college. Founded in 1872 to provide instruction and practice for common school teachers in the science of education, Glenville State College has surpassed its original mission, and currently prepares students for careers in teaching, business, land resources, music, the liberal arts, the sciences, criminal justice, and human services. With an enrollment of approximately 1,400 students, the college has a student to faculty ratio of 19 to 1. The college’s enrollment is made up of many first generation students with approximately 90% of the students coming from West Virginia counties.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Students who transfer to Glenville State College from another college must have an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on all course work completed at Glenville State College as one of the criteria for graduation.
  • Official Transcripts:
    An official college transcript from each college attended is required; if applicant has completed less than 27 hours, he/she must also submit a high school transcript.
  • SAT Scores:
    If applicant has completed less than 27 hours, he/she must also submit ACT/SAT scores.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $20 non-refundable application fee.
  • Interview:
    Students are encouraged to visit Glenville State College's campus. A personal interview with an admissions counselor, campus tour, and speaking with students and faculty can help you determine your college program.
  • Other Requirements:
    Immunization Records and proof of selective service registration must be submitted.
