    Traditionally, financing a college education is the responsibility of the family. The GWU realizes that the cost of a education may exceed a families ability. In such cases, GW provides a wide range of financial aid to help a family finance a GW education.

    Each year we welcome nearly 350 new transfer students from more than 300 different colleges and universities.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    No minimum GPA required is published by George Washington University.
  • Official Transcripts:
    An official transcript from each institution of higher education previously attended is required, as well as your official high school/secondary school transcript.
  • SAT Scores:
    If you have fewer than 30 semester hours of transferable credit, official standardized test scores are required.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    You must submit the College Official's Report Form for all institutions where you have been enrolled full-time.
  • Essay:
    An essay or personal statement is required for admission consideration.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $75 non-refundable application fee.
  • Interview:
    An interview is not required for admission consideration; however it is recommended.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is a C or higher.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Maximum number of credits or courses that may be transferred from a two-year and four-year institution varies by major. Minimum number of credits that transfers must complete at your institution to earn a bachelor’s degree is 30-45.
