Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Undergraduate transfer students' GPA requirements vary based on major. A minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA is required for admission. A 2.85 GPA is required for the VCCS Guaranteed Admission Agreement.
  • Official Transcripts:
    College transcripts are required from all previous institutions attended. If fewer than 24 college credits have been earned, a high school transcript must also be submitted.
  • SAT Scores:
    ACT or SAT scores are not required.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Letters of recommendation are not required for admission consideration.
  • Essay:
    A personal statement is preferred.
  • Application Fee:
    Online transfer application: $70
  • Interview:
    Interviews are not considered in the admission review process.
  • Associates Degree Required:
    No
  • Other Requirements:
    Applicants to certain majors in the College of Visual and Performing Arts are required to pass an audition or portfolio review for admission. Engineering and Computer Science have selective admission requirements.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Credit is granted for courses taken at regionally accredited colleges and universities where a grade of C or better was received and the course content was equivalent to courses offered by George Mason.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A total of 90 credits may be considered for transfer. Within the 90 hours, no more than 75 credits may be transferred from a community college. 30 hours must be earned in residence at Mason.
