  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    The primary purpose of financial aid at Fitchburg State University is to assist those students who, without financial assistance, would be unable to attend. The various financial aid programs are provided through a number of funding sources and are described in this brochure. The information enclosed also describes how your eligibility for financial aid is determined, university billing and refund procedures, alternative financing options and helpful hints and phone numbers.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Transfer students with 12-23 transferable credits must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. If you have 24 or more transferable credits must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. Meeting the minimum transfer standards for admission does not guarantee admission to the University or to a specific major.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college or university transcripts from each college or university attended are required. We also require high school transcripts if a student graduated high school within three years of applying.
  • SAT Scores:
    We require SAT/ACT scores as part of the application if a student graduated high school within three years of applying. If the student holds an Associate’s degree at time of application, SAT/ACT scores are not required.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    The Admissions Committee encourages applicants to submit letters of recommendation from transfer counselors or college/university professors.
  • Essay:
    An essay is in Section IX of the application.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a nonrefundable application fee of $25.
  • Interview:
    An Admissions interview is optional.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Transfer credit is normally granted for courses completed at regionally accredited colleges and universities, for which you received a 2.0 (C) or better, and which correspond with those offered at Fitchburg State University.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 60 semester hours of transfer credit will be accepted for coursework taken at two-year institutions, CLEP, the military and/or AP courses. The max increases to 75 hours if from a four-year baccalaureate institution.
