This course is designed to be the equivalent of the general chemistry course usually taken during the first college year. For some students, this course enables them to undertake, as freshmen, second-year work in the chemistry sequence at their institution or to register for courses in other fields where general chemistry is a prerequisite. For other students, the AP Chemistry course fulfills the laboratory science requirement and frees time for other courses.

Credit Hours: 500 Introduction to the foundations of chemistry for upper-level sciences and engineering Includes atomic structure, chemical bonding, reaction stoichiometry, behavior of gases, and reactions in solutions Also includes an introduction to thermochemistry Prerequisite(s): CHM 080 or 130 with a grade of C or better, OR placement into CHM 151 on the Chemistry assessment test, and MAT 122 with a grade of C or better Course Corequisites: Information: IN is the integrated version of the course with the lecture and lab taught simultaneously Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer
