The goal of the AP Environmental Science course is to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them.

Hours: 4 Course ID: 004744 This course introduces the students to the basic concepts in ecology and application of those concepts to current environmental issues. Topics include: the relationships between organisms and the environment; factors that influence distribution and abundance of organisms; population structure and regulation; energy flow, nutrient cycling, and community development, structure, and response to disturbance. A weekly 2 hour laboratory will provide field and laboratory experiences for the students. Lecture: 3 credits (45 contact hours). Laboratory: 1 credit (30 contact hours).
