Equivalency Details

The information presented is an unofficial guide to how courses may transfer. If you complete the following at Front Range Community College:

  • Exposes the student to American Sign Language. Readiness activities are conducted focusing on visual/ receptive skills and basic communication. Utilizes the direct experience method. 75 Contact Hours. Note: Students must complete this course with a grade of B or higher or pass the ASL proficiency test with a score of at least 80% or better prior to registering for ASL 122 if planning to enroll in the Interpreter Preparation program.

  • Develops a basic syntactic knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL), basic vocabulary and basic conversational skills. Incorporates vital aspects of Deaf culture and community. The direct experience method is used to enhance the learning process. 75 Contact Hours. Prerequisite: ASL 121. Note: Students must complete this course with a grade of B or higher or pass the ASL 121, ASL 122 proficiency test at 80% or better prior to acceptance into the Interpreting and Transliterating Preparation program.

  • Provides the student an opportunity to develop a stronger grasp of American Sign Language (ASL), as well as the cultural features of the language. ASL vocabulary is also increased. The direct experience method is used to further enhance the learning process. This course is a continuation of ASL 122 with more emphasis on expressive skills in signing. 75 Contact Hours. Prerequisite: ASL 122. Corequisite: ASL 125.
