The information presented is an unofficial guide to how courses may transfer.   • This course is designed to enhance student music listening. Students will learn to identify changes in the elements of music through the different stylistic periods of classical music. Factual and historical information will be presented to broaden the student's cultural and music appreciation. Students will hear recorded examples of music from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th-century eras, as well as popular American forms and music from non-Western cultures. 3 hrs./wk.

  • This course increases the student's comprehension and perception of music. Each developmental period will be discussed (Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 1900-1945, and 1945- today) in terms of the historical background, social influences, characteristics, styles, composers, representative compositions, and performance media. Specific pieces of music from each developmental period will be analyzed based on the musical concepts found in the piece (pitch, dynamics, tone color, instrumentation, texture, form, etc.)

Notes

Credits awarded for incoming transfer courses will be determined when an official transfer evaluation is completed upon the receipt of official transcripts. Credits taken on a quarter system are adjusted for semester credit hour conversion. Total number of transfer credits awarded is dependent on the Wilmington University program of study and up to the 90 credit maximum.
