  • Introduction to Astronomy is a one-semester college-level course in basic astronomy. The course may be used as a laboratory science elective with basic algebraic applications. The course explores a broad range astronomical concepts and principles in ten major areas: understanding the sky, apparent motions of the planets and the sun, telescopes and accompanying technology, basic structure and behavior of atoms, origin and analysis of light, origin of the solar system, internal structure and behavior of the sun, lifecycle of all stellar classes, origin and structure of galaxies, and cosmology. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on the implementation of the scientific method, the evidence that astronomers use to support their conclusions, and the importance of astronomy.   • (Information-Literacy Intensive Course) Modern theories of the origin and structure for the universe are detailed. A major focus on the origin and components of the solar system. Modern instruments and new techniques for exploring space and celestial objects are examined. Pre-Requisite: None
