This course provides an introduction to the study of rocks, minerals and physical processes that modify the surface of the earth, and it gives special attention to the practical aspects of geology in society, such as mineral, energy, and water resources, volcanism, and geologic factors that influence the environment. A study of the earth, integrating elements of physical geology, oceangraphy, meteorology, planetary geology and historical geology. Prerequisite: Declared intention to become an elementary or middle school teacher. Students may not take GEOP 1403 fter taking GEOL 1401 without instructor consent.
