Coppin State University is a model urban, residential liberal arts university located in the northwest section of the City of Baltimore that provides academic programs in the arts and sciences, teacher education, nursing, graduate studies, and continuing education. An HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), Coppin has a culturally rich history as an institution providing quality educational programs and community outreach services. Coppin offers 53 majors and nine graduate-degree programs. A fully accredited institution, Coppin serves Baltimore residents as well as students from around the world, with flexible course schedules that include convenient day, evening, and weekend classes and distance learning courses.

    One of the most challenging issues facing students and parents is the financing of a college education. The Financial Aid Office, within the confines of available funding and federal, state and institutional policies, makes every effort to assist you in making a Coppin education financially possible.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Generally, transfer students who have a 2.0 GPA will be admitted. Those who have completed fewer than 25 transferable credit hours of college-level work at the time of transfer can be considered for admission if they possess at least a 2.50 GPA.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college transcripts from all previously institutions are required. If you have fewer than 25 transferable credits, your official high school transcript is required.
  • SAT Scores:
    Official SAT/ACT scores are required if you have fewer than 25 transferable credits.
  • Essay:
    An essay may be requested.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $35 non-refundable application fee
  • Interview:
    Coppin State does not publish a requirement for a personal interview.
  • Other Requirements:
    Applicants with fewer than 25 transferable credits must also meet freshman diagnostic/placement test requirements.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Transfer credit is granted if the student has earned a grade of C or higher. The grade of D is transferable only if it is part of a granted Associate of Arts degree or if the overall cumulative average from all sending institutions is 2.0 or higher.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Coppin will accept up to 60 credits from two year colleges. In all cases, the applicant must complete the final 30 credit hours in residence at the University.
