California State University Bakersfield opened in September 1970 as the 19th member of the 23-campus California State University system. Its vision is to become the leading campus in the CSU system in terms of faculty and academic excellence and diversity, quality of the student experience and community engagement. The university is a comprehensive regional university and is committed to excellence in its four schools: Humanities and Social Sciences, Business and Public Administration, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Education. Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Generally, applicants will qualify for admission as a lower-division transfer student if they have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 (C or better) in all transferable units attempted. Non-residents must have a 2.4.
  • Official Transcripts:
    The submission of official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions is required.
  • SAT Scores:
    Test scores from the SAT I or ACT may be necessary and should be directed to Cal State Bakersfield. Depending on your eligibility index from high school, test scores may be required. Use school code 4110 for the SAT test and 0201 for the ACT test.
  • Application Fee:
    The application fee requires a non-refundable $55.00 filing fee whether sent via CSUMentor or on paper. Fee waivers are available if you qualify.
  • Other Requirements:

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is D.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    The max accepted from a 2-year is 90 quarter units, and 135 from a 4-year. You must earn 45 credits at Cal State Bakersfield to receive a bachelor's degree.
