Founded in 1907, California College of the Arts (CCA) educates students to shape culture and society through the practice and critical study of art, architecture, design, and writing. Located at the center of innovation and technology in the San Francisco Bay Area, CCA is home to a world-renowned faculty of practicing artists and entrepreneurs.   • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    CCA's Faculty Honors award is a merit scholarship program for direct college transfers planning to begin their studies at the college. Applicants who meet our priority deadlines are automatically considered for merit scholarships. We also offer need-based and diversity scholarships.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    2.0
  • Official Transcripts:
    Transfer applicants must submit all postsecondary transcripts. CCA requires applicants who plan to transfer academic credits earned at non-US institutions to submit a translated evaluation of their postsecondary (college) transcript(s).
  • SAT Scores:
    Not required.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    One letter of recommendation is required. The letter of recommendation must be an academic recommendation, while additional letters submitted may either be academic, artistic, work, or volunteer related.
  • Essay:
    An essay must accompany your application. Your essay should address the major influences on your decision to pursue art, architecture, design, or writing. It should also address how you see yourself contributing to the CCA community.
  • Application Fee:
    $70
  • Interview:
    An interview is not required, but prospective students are invited to meet with an admissions representative at National Portfolio Days, college-sponsored events, or a scheduled appointment on campus.
  • Other Requirements:

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    A grade of C or better (or pass, in pass/fail courses where a pass is equivalent to a C or better) is required in order to transfer credits from other institutions.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    There is no minimum credits required for transfer; transfer students can transfer at any time. The maximum number of credits that may be transferred is 96 for the BFA and BA degree and 132 for the BArch degree.

  • Transfer Agreements:
    CCA has formal educational partnerships that make transferring credits easier. A formal articulation agreement, which is one example of this kind of partnership, identifies the courses offered at two different post-secondary institutions that match.
