John Jay College of Criminal Justice is both an internationally recognized leader in scholarly research on criminal justice and a premier academic institution whose public service mission draws students from around the world. Each of the criminal-justice oriented majors is broadened by a curriculum rich in the liberal arts and taught by experts in their field. A wide range of academic disciplines is examined, and subjects integral to justice, security and the role of law, explored. With the Hudson River greenway to the West, Central Park to the east, Lincoln Center to the north, and the Chelsea Piers to the south, travel in any direction from John Jay and find a multitude of recreational and cultural possibilities.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    If you are transferring from a college or post secondary institution, you must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 based on the total number of credits that you have attempted or completed
  • Official Transcripts:
    Have all of your college transcripts sent directly from these institutions to the University Application Processing Center (UAPC). You must have your high school transcript or GED documentation forwarded as well.
  • SAT Scores:
    Since SAT and ACT scores may be used to fulfill CUNY Skills Proficiency requirements, we recommend that all applicants submit their scores to UAPC.
  • Application Fee:
    Attach a personal check or money order in the amount of $25 made payable to: John Jay College. This payment covers the required non-refundable application fee.
  • Other Requirements:
    Applicants with less than 45 credits must meet Academic Skills requirements (SAT/ACT scores may exempt applicants from these tests).

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Credit may be granted for courses that are equivalent to courses offered at John Jay. Courses from CUNY colleges may be accepted if at least a D has been earned. Courses from non-CUNY colleges may be accepted if at least a C has been earned.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Maximum credits from a 2-year institution - 68 credits. Maximum credits from a 4-year institution - 90 credits. Minimum of 30 credits must be taken at JJC, and 1/2 the total hours required for major must be taken at the college to earn a degree.
