Welcome to Butler University, where every student gets a comprehensive, personalized education. At Butler, you'll know your professors (our student-teacher ratio is 11:1) and your classmates. And you'll have the choice of more than 65 undergraduate programs in our six colleges – Arts, Business, Communication, Education, Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Butler is set on a beautifully landscaped 300-acre campus. But really, we think of Indianapolis as our campus.   • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    Butler encourages students to complete the FAFSA for federal aid and Butler Grant consideration. Transfer scholarships are available to admitted students if their total cumulative GPA is 2.75 or higher, and they range from $7,500/yr. to $14,000/yr. The Phi Theta Kappa Award is offered to admitted transfer students who are members of the PTK Honor Society at their 2-year school.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    A total cumulative college GPA of 2.5 is recommended for transfer applicants (the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences recommends a GPA of 3.0 or higher).
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions are required. If the transfer applicant has completed fewer than 20 credit hours, the final high school transcript and self-reported test scores are also required.
  • SAT Scores:
    Self-reported test scores are required for transfer applicants who have completed fewer than 20 credit hours. Test scores are required for all transfer students applying as a health sciences major.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Optional.
  • Essay:
    Optional.
  • Application Fee:
    There is no application fee when the Butler transfer application or the Common App for transfer students is submitted online.
  • Interview:
    Not required for most majors. Only required for transfer students applying to the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
  • Associates Degree Required:
    Not required.
  • Other Requirements:
    Transfer students applying to the Jordan College of the Arts must schedule and pass an audition (music, theatre, or dance) or pass an interview (arts administration or art+design).

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is a C or higher.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Students must have completed a minimum number of 12 credit hours to submit the transfer application. If students have completed fewer than 12 credit hours, they must submit the first-year (freshman) application.
