Butler County Community College (BC3), chartered in 1965, is the first community college in Western Pennsylvania. More than 2,000 credit students are enrolled in one of 53 associate degree or 26 certificate or workplace certificate programs in business, education and behavioral sciences, health care, liberal arts and STEM. An estimated 450 students earn college credits in BC3’s high school programming. Approximately 15,000 people participate annually in noncredit business and industry training and in public safety training, lifelong learning opportunities and professional development courses. BC3 has locations in Butler, Brockway, Cranberry Township, Ford City, Hermitage and New Castle. We hope you become a BC3 Pioneer!

  • Accepts Transfers:
    Students may receive credit for graded courses taken at most accredited, degree-granting institutions. Transfer of credits are reviewed by Records and Registration in consultation with the V.P. for Academic Affairs and appropriate academic deans.

    Butler County Community College has an open admissions policy accepting students who have a high school diploma, GED/HiSET scores, or the ability to benefit from a post-secondary education.

    BC3 awards credits through SOAR (Students Occupationally and Academically Ready) and has established various individual articulation agreements with local career and technical centers.
  • Credit For Life Experience:
    BC3 accepts credit for life experience for work, volunteer, military, or training. A e-portfolio showing the student has met course objectives is required and $150 evaluation fee. Please contact lifecredits@bc3.edu for more information.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Only applicable for those applying to the selective admissions programs of Massage Therapy, Nursing (PN or RN), or Physical Therapist Assistant. Contact the Admissions Office at admissions@bc3.edu or 724-284-8501 for more information.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official high school transcripts or GED/HiSET test scores are required of all applicants. Students who have attended another post-secondary institution are required to submit their official transcript(s) for evaluation by Records and Registration
  • SAT Scores:
    Not required, but may exempt a student from placement testing. Must provide proof of score from high school, College Board, or ACT. 500 or better - SAT Math and/or Evidence Based Reading and Writing 21 or better - ACT English 23 or better - ACT Math
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Not required
  • Essay:
    Not required
  • Application Fee:
    $25.00, but waived at Open House events or for those who can prove financial hardship.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    For courses to be accepted in transfer, they must be listed on a college transcript with a grade of A, B, or C. One D may be accepted if approved by the V.P. for Academic Affairs
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 45 credits may be transferred in to BC3 toward an Associate Degree and 15 credits toward a Certificate.
