    Financial aid for transfer applicants is limited. In order to be considered for available funds, you must check "yes" to the Financial Aid question on Form 1 of the admission application and complete the appropriate forms by the requisite deadlines.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    The admission process for transfer students at Brown is highly competitive. The Board of Admission evaluates each application on its own merits, seeking students whose records demonstrate both academic excellence and personal growth.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Your official high school transcript, as well as transcripts from all previously attended institutions, are required.
  • SAT Scores:
    If you are attending a college that required you to submit SAT or ACT scores, then we require that you send us copies of those scores. If you are attending a college that did not, your scores are not required but are requested.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Two letters of recommendation from college instructors or teaching assistants on college stationery are required. If you are planning to pursue a Sc.B. degree, we recommend that one of these recommendations be from a science or math instructor.
  • Essay:
    An essay or personal statement is required for admission consideration.
  • Application Fee:
    Candidates for entry in either semester should submit their completed applications and the $75 application fee no later than March 1.
  • Interview:
    We do not offer personal interviews to transfer students. You will be contacted directly if the admission committee needs further information.
  • Other Requirements:
    Transfer students should not submit supplementary materials such as music, art portfolios, and/or writing samples. They are not required and will not be reviewed.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    To be transferrable, a course must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. (A PASS/FAIL grade is acceptable if it is clear that “Pass” is equivalent to at least a “C” grade at that institution.)
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A transfer applicant must have a minimum number of 8 courses completed or else must apply as an entering freshman. Maximum number of credits or courses that may be transferred from a two-year and four-year institution is 15 courses.
