Founded in 1860, Bard is a four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences. The campus, a fusion of two historic riverfront estates, is located in the Hudson Valley. The College offers the bachelor of arts degree with concentrations in more than 40 academic programs in four divisions: Arts; Languages and Literature; Science, Mathematics, and Computing; and Social Studies. In addition, the Bard College Conservatory of Music offers a dual-degree program in which students earn both a bachelor’s degree in music and a B.A. in another field in the liberal arts or sciences.

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    Sixty-five percent of Bard students receive financial aid, including students from abroad. An award of financial aid is need-based and competitive. The stronger the student applications the more likely that some form of financial aid will be granted.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Official Transcripts:
    Official high school transcripts are required for admission, along with transcripts from previously attended institutions.
  • SAT Scores:
    No SAT/ACT scores are required, but if you submit your scores we will consider them in making our admission decisions.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Letters of recommendation from at least two professors with whom you have had classes. In cases where there is no direct contact with the lecturing professor, recommendations from graduate students or other teaching assistants will be accepted.
  • Essay:
    A complete application includes two essays.
  • Application Fee:
    $50 application fee (nonrefundable).
  • Interview:
    Interviews are not required for admission but they are available to applicants.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    A student transferring from an accredited junior college, college, or university usually receives full credit for work completed with a grade of C or better in courses appropriate to the Bard curriculum.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 64 transfer credits will be granted. Transfer students must complete the final 64 credits at Bard, for a total of 128, in order to receive a Bard degree.
