    You are eligible for transfer admission to Amherst if you have completed at least one year as a full-time student at a college or university. We do not accept applications from individuals who have already earned a bachelor's degree.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    A minimum college grade point average of 3.5 is required for transfer admission consideration.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official high school transcripts are required of all applicants. Official transcripts from previously attended institutions are required by all applicants for admission consideration.
  • SAT Scores:
    Submission of standardized test scores are recommended of all applicants.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Two Transfer College Instructor Evaluations are required.
  • Essay:
    A Personal Essay of between 250-500 words that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve is required with your application.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $60 nonrefundable application fee, unless you make a fee waiver request.
  • Interview:
    An interview is not required for admission consideration.
  • Other Requirements:
    In addition to the Transfer Common Application, the following must be submitted: Application Supplement, Transfer College Report and Arts/Athletic Supplements (if applicable).

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is a C or higher.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A transfer applicant must have a minimum number of 30 credits completed or else must apply as an entering freshman. The Maximum number of credits or courses that may be transferred from a two-year or a four-year institution is 64.
