Alfred University is a private, coeducational, nonsectarian university of approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 300 graduate students, founded in 1836. The 232- acre campus, with an additional 400- acres of nearby recreational land, is set in Alfred, New York, a village located in the Southern Tier of the state; 70 miles south of Rochester, between the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains and the picturesque Finger Lakes region. There are 52 buildings, including 23 residence halls.
