Alfred University is a private, coeducational, nonsectarian university of approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 300 graduate students, founded in 1836. The 232- acre campus, with an additional 400- acres of nearby recreational land, is set in Alfred, New York, a village located in the Southern Tier of the state; 70 miles south of Rochester, between the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains and the picturesque Finger Lakes region. There are 52 buildings, including 23 residence halls.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Official Transcripts:
    An official high school transcript or results of the General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D). Official sealed transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended.
  • SAT Scores:
    If available, College Board test scores should be forwarded if you have completed less than two semesters of college work.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    At least one letter of recommendation (preferably from a faculty member at the college most recently attended).
  • Essay:
    Your essay should describe any personal experiences or circumstances that have affected your educational performance and/or your interest in transferring.
  • Application Fee:
    A $50 application fee is required with your transfer application. Campus visitors receive an AU Application Fee Waiver certificate.
  • Interview:
    Interviews are not required but are encouraged.
  • Associates Degree Required:
    No
  • Other Requirements:
    In addition to the requirements listed above, a portfolio is required if you are an applicant to the School of Art & Design.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    In general, any course in which you have earned a "C" or above will be accepted for credit. In courses graded pass/fail or credit/no credit, grades of "pass" and "credit" are accepted.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
