Alcorn State University is known as a campus of excellence and an academic resort. We are located on 1700 acres of scenic land in southwest Mississippi. The campus has a uniquely harmonious blend of rich, historic buildings and modern, innovative facilities. Alcorn State University has received recognition throughout the United States for its excellence in liberal arts, agricultural research, technology, nursing and fine arts. We also have one of the largest marching bands in the United States of America and have won numerous athletic championships in men's and women's sports.

    College tuition is a major expenditure for any family. As a public university, Alcorn State strives to keep costs low, but many of our students still need financial aid to attend. The Office of Financial Aid is eager to help you and your family obtain the assistance you need to bridge the gap between your financial resources and the full cost of tuition. Among your options are scholarships, grants, loans, and part-time employment.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    There is a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for transfer admission consideration.
  • Official Transcripts:
    College transcripts from every institution attended are required. An official statement of honorable dismissal sent directly from the college or university previously attended is required.
  • SAT Scores:
    SAT/ACT scores are required if applying with less than 24 credits.
  • Associates Degree Required:
    Students transferring from one of the Mississippi public community colleges and following the 64 hour CORE approved by the eight state universities will receive complete credit for the courses outlined in that 64 hour CORE.
  • Other Requirements:
    You must have an overall average of ā€œCā€ and the following required 24 semester hours: 6 semester hours English Composition; 3 semester hours College Algebra or above; 6 semester hours Laboratory Science; and 9 semester hours Transferable Electives.

    Full credit is given for all courses passed at other accredited institutions provided the courses and grades of ā€œCā€ and above are equivalent to the requirements of the curriculum chosen at Alcorn.
